I’ve been sacrificing what I want so everyone else can be happy and save face or do whatever the fuck else they’ve wanted. I’ve let them believe what they want about me and what I’ve done, just taking that shit while I sat back, not defending myself. But that shit is over for me, and I hope it’s over for Jakari as well. I hope getting everything out in the open has freed her as much as it’s freed me. I’m free to pursue her and she can reciprocate if that’s what she wants.

Although, I wouldn’t blame Jakari if she took this as her chance to cut ties with my family for good. She might just want a clean slate, especially now that Jessica is twenty and is old enough to maintain a relationship with my family without Jakari’s input. For her own physical and mental health, she might cut ties with the lot of us.

I chuckle when I pull up to Eli Johnson’s house in and park my motorcycle. It’s thirty degrees outside right now, yet I smell grilling meat and see smoke billowing from the backyard of the small cottage home where Jakari used to live as a child.

Jakari is on the porch with her phone to her ear, but she’s staring at me as I get off my bike and head toward her. She looks like she’s remembering the fantasy world from last night, just like I am as I walk toward her. I have to adjust my dick behind my zipper as I take in Jakari in tight jeans, cream-colored ankle boots, and a cream-colored sweater. Her face is lightly made up, highlighting her smooth, caramel features. Her lips shine, looking pouty and full and making me want to fuck her in real life, not in a dream.

“Let me call you back, Kori,” Jakari says to her agent. They are probably discussing the fallout of her impending divorce and what she needs to do to make sure it has a positive impact on her career. I have full confidence in Kori’s abilities since she’s been Jakari’s agent for the past decade.

“Allison told me what happened.”

Jakari sighs and shakes her head. She crosses her arms over her chest, trying to hold back tears.

“I didn’t want it to come to this, but he gave me no choice, Arrow. But I didn’t say anything about you or about us.”

“There’s nothing to say, JJ. What happened between us was in a dream. I don’t know how it happened or what it means or if it will ever happen again, but a piece of paper doesn’t determine your loyalty. What’s in your heart determines your loyalty. If you can say you weren’t in love with Archer when you thought you had a lapse in loyalty, then I think the universe will forgive you. Karma won’t come back to bite you in the ass.”

I walk up the steps and join Jakari on her father’s porch. We both sit in the chairs there and sit in silence for a long time before Jakari finally speaks.
